Project Name: Real Time Logistics Tracking Web Portal for Base Realignment and Closures (BRAC) Projects
Business Objective: The US Army, among other military branches, via US Federal government command, was required to close, consolidate, and move entire portions of various military bases from one base to another. These efforts involved moving what amounts to a small city from one place to another. There needed to be a way to track this process the Army did not have, so they reached out to the private sector.
Solution
The US Army engaged Harmonic to work on the project as follows:
-
- Architect, design, and implement a never been seen before single web based portal for complete command and control from a centralized system, all points of movement of personnel, assets, equipment, furniture, weapons, and vehicles from one Army base to another base(s).
- Using the Fort Knox to Fort Benning BRAC project as a pilot, over 1800 truckloads were required to be managed over 18 months, each containing a combination of sensitive and/or non sensitive materials.
- Secure, Real time GPS based inventory of all items in each truck, were able to be tracked in the Microsoft SharePoint based portal. Blackout zones applied on maps for sensitive truckloads/items/transport.
- Integrating weather and traffic, provided automatic rerouting and notifications to Army commanders and vehicle drivers.
- System provided for on demand and scheduled project status reporting at any given moment, also had ability to reschedule, cancel, and reroute automatically when one or more items were delayed on either the shipping end or the receiving end.
- System provided a bar coded, image capable inventory system for all assets and items being moved.
